[IDesigns.News] SMTP server issues

If you are having problems sending your email the problem may be circumvented by adjusting a few of your settings in your email program.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are seeing an RBL error message or "JunkMail rejected" message, this adjustment will not help you.  You need to contact your ISP to report that your IP address is being blocked by an RBL.

Since there are quite a few different email programs out there and MANY versions of Outlook it is difficult to provide step by step instructions for all of them, but we can provide general instructions to assist you in making this adjustment. In a nutshell, if you are using your domain name for your SMTP server you need to adjust your SMTP server settings to use Authentication and perhaps change the port number.

-Outlook-
Select: Tools, Accounts, View or change account
Select the "more settings" tab
You should see several tabs, one being "Servers" or "SMTP servers"
Place a check in the box for "My outgoing server requires authentication"
Change the SMTP port to 26

-Thunderbird-
Select Tools, then Account Settings.
From the list of accounts on the left side, Select "Outgoing Server (SMTP)".
From the list of SMTP servers displayed, select the entry for the email account in question and select "Edit"
Set the port number to 26
Place a check in the box under "Security and Authentication" for user name and password.
Put the email address for the account in question in the space provided.
Select "No" for "Use Secure Connection
Hit "OK".

NOTES:
1) The mail servers for both POP and SMTP should be the same (example: mail.yourdomain.com)
2) If you have more than one email address set up for your domain name you will need to make this same adjustment for each of the accounts SMTP server entries, or add a new entry for each.

If the above does not seem to correct your problem please open a support request ticket by logging into your Nexus account or sending an email to our support address from an off-network address (such as a Gmail account).

Be sure to include your domain name, email address that you are having an issue with, which email program you are using, and the exact error message that you see.  You can include a screen shot in bmp or jpg format if you need to. Include the approx date of your last Windows Update as well if you are using XP or Vista.

Sincerely,
